Getting the grip and stance down to the finest detail is well worth your time - it IS the shortcut to a good swing motion.
Some of the stance errors I see in person are poor posture (flexed spine or head sagging forward), closed stance on irons, too wide of feet, and too much reach between the thighs and the butt of the club.
