The club manufacturers design a set of clubs so that our setup and swing has to change only minimally in order to correctly strike each shot. The lower irons are built to hit down more, and therefore require more lead, or forward lean at impact.
To make things simple, we want to set up with the same forward lean that we intend to strike the ball with - this way we just return to where we started.
