The handle of the club is the connection in the chain between the navel and the clubhead. The head of the club is influenced greatly by the way the handle swings. If the handle gets going on a bad vector, the head will respond - and no matter how much torque or effort you apply with the forearms, you will not be able to overcome it.
Essentially, there are many other torques in the swing that cause the clubface to square up with the ball besides the action of the wrists and forearms - in fact these joints might provide the least . . .
