The way the feet work must be practiced hundreds or even thousands of times without a ball, and sometimes without the club as well to keep these distractions away from the anatomical behavior.
So many errors can be traced to bad footwork - reverse pivot, over the top, etc., as well as a higher risk of injury. Be precise with your footwork and you will be rewarded later on with better ball striking.
Ideally, work the feet while your butt is on the wall at home. This will show you how the foot action helps facilitate the right hip and knee . . .
