Nothing will wreck your attempt to build a good swing more than making errors in the pivot. Of course there are a myriad of different possibilities, but luckily only a few common ones.
Even professional golfers groove pivots that are not ideal, and this is what eventually limits their success. Some will be creative and learn how to work around them.
Here are a few of the common pivot errors that I see on a day to day basis.
